Mickey Kenny is a beard-clad poet pursuing a master’s degree at Colorado State University. Before forming Wasteland Hop in January 2011, Mickey was an MC for Collaboscope – a progressive hip-hop project in his native Alaska.
Mickey doesn’t use the microphone to boast, battle, or write club jams. His lyrics owe as much to the culture of slam poetry as they do to rap.
Steph Jay is a sun-streaked songstress and native of Loveland, Colorado. Before becoming Wasteland Hop’s lead singer, she performed for years as a solo artist – earning applause and dropping jaws with her intense folk songs and unforgettable voice.
Then there’s the band: Brian (bass), Adam (drums), and Nick (electric guitar) – who provide the rock, the groove, and the funk. In December 2012, Wasteland Hop added it’s first new member: the classically trained violinist Liz.
They’ve been lucky enough to record and perform with an eclectic batch of local musicians, including Alana Rolfe (viola, Fierce Bad Rabbit), Kira Lynn Sands (cello, Talisker Skye), and Josh Stevens (classical guitar).
